COMMISSIONING OF INS IKSHAK, THIRD OF THE SVL CLASS SHIP

INS Ikshak, the third Survey Vessel Large (SVL), was commissioned at Naval Base Kochi, marking a significant boost to India’s hydrographic and maritime capabilities. Equipped with advanced systems and dedicated women’s accommodation, the ship embodies the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and modern operational versatility.

INS Ikshak, the third Survey Vessel Large (SVL), was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Naval Base, Kochi on 06 Nov 25. The ceremony was presided over by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, in the presence of VAdm Sameer Saxena, FOCINC (South), senior Naval officers, veterans, representatives from Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, and other dignitaries. The event marked the formal induction of INS Ikshak, underscoring the Navy’s commitment to strengthening hydrographic and maritime capabilities.

On arrival, a 50-men Guard of Honour was presented to the Chief of the Naval Staff. Captain Tribhuvan Singh, Commanding Officer, read the Commissioning Warrant, followed by the hoisting of the Naval ensign, national anthem, ceremonial salute, and commissioning pennant. Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi unveiled the Commissioning Plaque, signifying the ship’s entry into active service.

In his address, the CNS highlighted INS Ikshak as a symbol of successful collaboration between the Navy, Indian industries, and MSMEs, reflecting the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The ship is equipped with advanced hydrographic and oceanographic systems, helicopter support, and dual-role capability for survey operations and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). It is notably the first SVL designed with dedicated women’s accommodation, reinforcing the Navy’s focus on inclusivity and modernisation.

The CNS also visited various sections onboard and interacted with the crew and GRSE officials, appreciating their professionalism and contribution to the ship’s successful induction.
