Kitex Garments has issued a ₹250 crore legal notice against Reporter TV and 15 others, alleging repeated broadcast of false and defamatory reports. The company has announced civil and criminal action, including asset attachment, while denying political allegations linked to the Twenty20 party’s NDA alignment.
Kochi: Kitex Garments Limited Managing Director Sabu M. Jacob stated at a press conference that a legal notice has been issued seeking ₹250 crore in damages against Reporter TV, its management, and employees for allegedly broadcasting false and defamatory news.
The notice was issued in response to the channel repeatedly airing unverified reports accusing the company of tax evasion and multiple legal violations over several days. Legal notices have been served to the management and editorial leadership of Reporter Broadcasting Company Private Limited, several journalists, and also to Indo Asian News Channel Private Limited and its directors, naming 16 individuals and entities in total.
Sabu M. Jacob stated that the company will initiate both civil and criminal proceedings, including steps to attach the assets of the accused, as part of the legal action. He also alleged that those running the channel do not appear to possess valid broadcasting licenses from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting or the Ministry of Home Affairs, and that their license application had reportedly been rejected earlier citing national security concerns.
He further alleged that the channel is operating in violation of multiple statutory provisions and said complaints would be submitted to the relevant authorities.
Addressing a specific allegation aired by Reporter TV, Sabu M. Jacob clarified that the political party Twenty20, of which he is the president, had recently aligned with the National Democratic Alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party. He denied the channel’s claim that the move was driven by fear of arrest by the Enforcement Directorate, calling the allegation baseless and defamatory.
