Kochi: The ‘Operation Toofan – The Narco Hunt’ initiative, launched under the leadership of Amrita Hospital to protect young people from the dangers of drug abuse and strengthen anti-drug awareness in society, was inaugurated by Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. The Minister also inaugurated ‘Toofan Thambi’, a programme designed to expand anti-drug health awareness and treatment services in tribal communities.In his inaugural address, the Minister said that Amrita Hospital has brought significant transformation to Kerala’s healthcare sector. He added that the Kerala Police would continue its fight against drug mafias until they are eradicated, stressing that combating substance abuse is essential to safeguarding the future of the younger generation.

The chief guest, Justice Devan Ramachandran, Judge of the Kerala High Court, launched ‘Toofan Amrita Software – Toofan One’, developed by Amrita Technologies. He remarked that those who choose to stay away from drugs are mentally and physically stronger than those who use them.T.J. Vinod MLA unveiled the official logo of the project.
The event was held at Amritayanam Hall (B Block Auditorium), Amrita Hospital, Kochi, where Swami Poornamritanandapuri, General Secretary of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, delivered the benedictory address. Prof. Dr. K.P. Girish Kumar, Principal of Amrita School of Medicine, welcomed the gathering.Among those who addressed the function were Kerala State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar, Kochi City Police Commissioner Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar, DIG Putta Vimaladitya, and Prof. Dr. C. Sreekumar.The event was also attended by R. Sreekandan Nair, Managing Director of 24 News, Pradeep Achan, CEO of Amrita Technologies, Dr. Jaggu Swamy, Adv. K. Anand, C.K. Pradeep, Biju Melattoor, Dr. D.M. Vasudevan, Dr. Rahna C.
