KANNUR ; Marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH) Kannur, in joint collaboration with Mothers Army Kannur, organized a ‘Pink Bike Rally’ to advocate early detection and fight against breast cancer. Flagged off by Pink Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Roja P., the all-women motorcycle rally witnessed participation from hundreds of women across Kannur district. Commencing from BMH Kannur, the rally traversed key city landmarks—including the Kannur Railway Station and Caltex Junction—before terminating back at the hospital premises.
Highlighting the medical imperative of early diagnosis, Dr. Arun Mohan, Consultant in Medical Oncology at BMH Kannur, noted that breast cancer arises from the uncontrolled growth of breast tissue cells, forming malignant tumors. He emphasized that self-examination alongside routine mammograms remains the gold standard for early detection. Dr. Mohan advised menstruating women to perform monthly breast self-examinations following their cycle, and others to select a fixed date each month, warning that painless lumps or structural changes are key indicators requiring immediate clinical evaluation. Pointing out that breast cancer remains the leading malignancy among women in Kerala, BMH authorities reaffirmed their commitment to hosting continuous community outreach programs.
