Kochi: The 76th National Conference of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOICON 2025), being held at Le Meridien, Ernakulam, is creating a significant economic impact on Kerala. According to Dr. M.M. Hanish, the organizing committee convener, the event is proving highly beneficial to various sectors across the state.
With more than 4,000 delegates and their families arriving from across the country and abroad, Kochi, known as Kerala’s commercial capital, has experienced an economic surge. Industries ranging from small-scale vendors to five-star hotels, airlines, railways, taxis, and shopping malls are benefiting from the influx of visitors. Popular tourist destinations such as Alappuzha, Kumarakom, and Munnar have also witnessed increased activity, further highlighting the economic advantages of such large-scale events.
Dr. Hanish pointed out that events like AOICON contribute crores of rupees to the state’s economy, uplifting businesses of all sizes. Over 4,000 hotel rooms in Kochi and nearby areas were booked in advance, along with 2,000 taxis arranged specifically for the conference. Furthermore, the event has generated employment opportunities for numerous daily wage workers over the course of four days.
