Defence Forces Veterans’ Day Commemorated with Wreath Laying and Veterans Meet at Kochi

Defence Forces Veterans’ Day was commemorated at Naval Base Kochi with a wreath laying ceremony led by Shri Suresh Gopi and senior naval officers. The event brought together over 200 veterans for a tribute, interaction, and ship visit, reinforcing the bond between serving personnel and veterans.

Kochi:  Defence Forces Veterans’ Day was solemnly observed at Naval Base Kochi on 14 Jan 26 with a wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial, honouring the supreme sacrifice of India’s armed forces veterans. Shri Suresh Gopi, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, was the Chief Guest and laid a wreath in the presence of VAdm Sameer Saxena, FOC-in-C(South), senior naval officers, and distinguished guests.

Veterans from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force also paid their respects by laying wreaths, reflecting the unity and shared legacy of the three Services. The ceremony highlighted the nation’s gratitude towards ex-servicemen who dedicated their lives to safeguarding the sovereignty and security of India.

Following the tribute, a veterans’ get-together and interactive session was held at Sangam II, Naval Base Kochi. Addressing the gathering, Shri Suresh Gopi appreciated the Southern Naval Command for its continuous efforts in supporting the veteran community and reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to their welfare and well-being. Gallantry award winners were felicitated on the occasion, recognising their exceptional courage and service.

The event also featured a special ship visit to INS Sunayna, giving veterans an opportunity to reconnect with naval life and relive their years of service. With the participation of over 250 personnel, including more than 220 veterans, the programme strengthened the bond between serving personnel and the veteran community, reinforcing the enduring spirit of service, honour, and sacrifice that defines the Indian Armed Forces.
