Heart transplant recipients express their gratitude to Dr. Jose Chacko Periyappuram after he was honored with the Padma Bhushan.
Kochi: Dr. Jose Chacko Periyappuram, who gave them a second life, was honored by the country with the Padma Bhushan, and the joy of this recognition was shared as they arrived with a garland of lotuses. Shruthi Shashi, Dinoj Thomas, Girish Kumar, Matthew Achadan, Sunny Thomas, and Jitesh’s father Jayadev, who had undergone successful heart transplant surgeries at Lissy Hospital, came together at the hospital to personally congratulate Dr. Jose Chacko Periyappuram. Girish Kumar, the second person in India to have undergone a heart transplant, took the initiative for this meeting.
However, due to the sudden planning, not everyone was able to attend. Unexpected guests were warmly welcomed by Dr. Jose Chacko Periyappuram. The doctor expressed happiness seeing those who had undergone heart transplants moving forward in their lives, working independently. He mentioned that the honor he received is a recognition of their self-confidence. With the lotus garland they offered him around his neck, Dr. Jose Chacko Periyappuram shared the sweetness of the moment before heading into the next surgery.
