A farmers’ meet and field demonstration on sustainable farming practices, focusing on recycling fish waste into fish feed and organic fertilizer, was held in Kochi.
Kochi: Under the Swachhata Action Plan, the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) and the State Seed Farm jointly organized a farmers’ meet and training demonstration on the topic ‘Fish Feed and Organic Fertilizer from Fish Waste’ at the Okkal Farm Fest. The goal of the meet was to bring together farmers, scientists, and agricultural experts to discuss sustainable farming practices and innovative ideas. Dr. George Nainan, Director of CIFT, chaired the event. A memorandum of understanding for joint cooperation in waste management was exchanged between Dr. George Nainan and Senior Agriculture Officer Mr. Philip J.
The production process of converting fish market waste into fish feed and organic fertilizer was presented by CIFT scientists Dr. Bincy P.K. and Dr. A. Jayakumar. Dr. Sainudeen A.A., Principal Scientist at CIFT, along with other scientists, interacted with farmers, answered queries, and provided expert guidance on CIFT’s technologies. The event was also attended by Mr. Philip J., Senior Agriculture Officer from the Agriculture Department, and Dr. Geethalakshmi V., Principal Scientist and SAP (TAJ) Nodal Officer at CIFT. Around 60 farmers and agriculture officers participated in the meet.
