The Folklore Fest New Year celebrations bring together Kerala’s rich traditional art forms, cultural programs, and thrilling beach competitions at multiple venues in Vypin.
Vypin: The Folklore Fest, organized under the leadership of MLA K.N. Unnikrishnan, will host its New Year celebrations from December 28 to 30 across various venues, including Kuzhupilly Beach, Edavanakkad Pulickal Hall, and Cherai Beach.
The festivities will commence on December 28 at 3:30 PM with a grand procession at Kuzhupilly Beach, followed by a cultural gathering chaired by Panchayat President and Fest General Convener K.S. Nibin. The event will be inaugurated by MLA K.N. Unnikrishnan and IAS officer Raju Narayana Swamy. The evening will feature a state-level beach judo championship and traditional Madattu dance performed by Kulathupuzha Thanathu Kalasamithy, along with a musical concert.
On December 29, the events will move to Pulickal Hall at Edavanakkad, starting at 10:00 AM with the Ishal Fest, inaugurated by film actor Majeed, with notable guests MLA K.N. Unnikrishnan and Mappilappattu artist Rasheed Monga. The program will showcase state-level competitions in traditional art forms such as Oppana, Kolkali, and Mappilappattu. Afternoon activities at Kuzhupilly Beach include beach tug-of-war and wrestling competitions, followed by a musical tribute by Vava’s Gaananjali at 5:30 PM. Later, traditional dance forms like Paliya Nritham by Wayanad Vellayankanni Paliya will take the stage, followed by a performance by the Coppa Poetry Band.
On December 30, the celebrations will conclude at Cherai Beach with a special performance of the tribal dance form Gaddika by Wayanad’s P.K. Kalan Gotrakala at 6:30 PM, with MLA K.N. Unnikrishnan in attendance.
