KEFON Launches ‘Connecting the Unconnected’ in Attappady on Dec 27

Palakkad: KEFON, Kerala’s own internet broadband connection, has marked a milestone in the state’s digitalization efforts by bringing internet connectivity to most of the tribal villages in Attappadi. As part of the “Connecting the Unconnected” project, KEFON has provided internet connections to 287 homes in 142 out of 190 tribal villages in the region. The state-level inauguration of the project will be conducted by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on December 27.

According to Principal Secretary and KEFON Managing Director Dr. Santosh Babu, all individuals in Attappadi who requested internet connection have been provided with it. Additional arrangements are also in place to cater to further requests. The project aims to utilize the corporate social responsibility programs of various companies, local self-government bodies, and regional infrastructure development funds to maximize its impact. The goal is to expand internet services to other tribal areas as well.

This project is part of Kerala’s efforts to enhance internet literacy and infrastructure. By installing fiber optics in remote areas that previously struggled to access the internet, the initiative will improve connectivity not only in these areas but also in surrounding regions. Additionally, other service providers can lease KEFON’s fiber infrastructure to offer internet services.

In addition to Attappadi, KEFON has successfully ensured internet connectivity in remote areas across the state, including in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottur, Wayanad, and Idukki’s hilly regions. The overarching goal of KEFON is to ensure internet-based services across all tribal areas of Kerala.
