Kerala Launches Cancer Grid to Improve Diagnosis and Treatment

Kerala introduces the Cancer Grid to improve early diagnosis, treatment, and care for cancer patients, ensuring a streamlined service across various health centers statewide.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Health Minister of Kerala, Veena George, stated that the newly launched Cancer Grid will significantly improve cancer diagnosis and treatment across the state. The initiative was inaugurated as part of the ‘Health is Happiness, Cancer Be Gone’ campaign. The Cancer Grid aims to provide accurate screenings and treatments for individuals suspected of having cancer without the need for patients to travel to multiple locations. It connects regional cancer centers, testing facilities, and hospitals to ensure consistent high-quality cancer care statewide.

Through the Cancer Grid, patients will have access to standardized services, including unified diagnostic protocols and treatment guidelines. It facilitates collaboration among oncologists and experts, promoting knowledge sharing and innovative research in cancer treatment and prevention.

The Cancer Grid includes a comprehensive mapping system that identifies cancer screening facilities, referral centers, and the necessary services required at every stage of diagnosis and treatment. Once cancer is detected at any facility, the grid provides precise directions for further treatment and ensures the patient is referred to the nearest available specialized center.

The initiative also plays a vital role in facilitating early cancer detection and treatment, particularly with the growing number of cancer patients in the state. As part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat cancer, the Health Department is organizing a year-long public cancer screening campaign titled ‘Health is Happiness, Cancer Be Gone.’ This initiative guarantees that individuals detected with potential cancer risks during screening will receive expert consultations and treatment, further supported by the Cancer Grid network.
