Former Chief Secretary and noted author K. Jayakumar IAS emphasized the critical role of private hospitals in Kerala’s healthcare sector, particularly in handling patient volumes that often go beyond the capacity of government hospitals. He was speaking at the Doctors’ Day celebration organized by IMA Kochi at the IMA House, Kaloor, where he also inaugurated a special ceremony honoring senior doctors. Jayakumar pointed out that private hospitals significantly support the healthcare system, especially when government hospitals face overwhelming patient loads. “Just like patients, doctors and healthcare professionals also have rights. Mutual trust between doctor and patient is an essential element in treatment, and both parties have a responsibility to preserve this relationship,” he said.
