Uma Thomas MLA sustained critical head and lung injuries following a fall from Kaloor Stadium’s gallery and is under intensive care
Kochi: MLA Uma Thomas sustained severe injuries after falling from the gallery at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kaloor. She suffered critical head and lung injuries and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Ernakulam. Upon arrival, she was in an unconscious state and was later moved to ventilator support due to the severity of her condition.
A CT scan revealed significant head trauma, cervical spine injuries, facial fractures, and rib fractures, which resulted in lung hemorrhaging. Although her condition is critical, hospital authorities confirmed that an immediate surgical intervention is not required. She is under 24-hour observation, and updates on her recovery are awaited.
To ensure comprehensive treatment, the government has appointed a special medical team led by Dr. Jayakumar, Superintendent of Kottayam Medical College, along with experts from Kottayam and Ernakulam medical colleges. This team will assist the hospital’s medical board in managing her care.
The accident occurred during a Bharatanatyam event aiming for a Guinness World Record, featuring 12,000 dancers. Uma Thomas was attending the event as an official guest when she fell approximately 20 feet from the gallery. Immediate medical assistance was provided, and she was quickly transported to the hospital.
The government and medical professionals are closely monitoring her condition, hoping for a steady recovery.
