Work Hours Rescheduled in Kerala Due to Rising Summer Heat

The Kerala government has rescheduled work hours for laborers working in the sun to minimize the risk of heatstroke, effective until May 10.

Thiruvananthapuram: In response to the rising daytime temperatures, the government has decided to reschedule the working hours of laborers working in direct sunlight until May 10. The decision was made considering the risk of heatstroke. Work hours have been fixed from 7 AM to 7 PM, with a break between 12 PM and 3 PM for all workers working during the day.

For workers on shift systems, the shifts will be rescheduled to end at 12 PM and begin at 3 PM, as announced by Labor Commissioner Safna Nasruddin. Special teams have been formed under the supervision of District Labor Officers, Deputy Labor Officers, and Assistant Labor Officers to conduct daily inspections.

The commissioner also assured that special attention will be given to the construction and roadwork sectors, ensuring that proper checks are in place. Areas situated at altitudes above 3000 feet from sea level, where heatstroke risks are minimal, are excluded from this order.
