The Indian Navy-led Joint Services Multi-Speciality Camp is providing advanced medical and surgical care across five islands of Lakshadweep, including large-scale cataract surgeries. The initiative is significantly improving access to quality healthcare in one of India’s most remote Union Territories.
A Joint Services Multi-Speciality Camp, as envisioned by the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Sri Rajnath Singh, is being conducted in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep from 12 to 17 January 2026. The camp was formally inaugurated by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Chief of the Naval Staff, at Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kavaratti, on 13 January 2026, in the presence of senior officers of the Armed Forces, civil administration representatives, and members of the local community.
The Indian Navy is implementing the camp across five islands—Amini, Androth, Agatti, Kavaratti, and Minicoy—ensuring wide access to advanced medical services. Residents are receiving consultations, diagnostics, and treatment in specialties such as Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, and Ophthalmology, with cataract surgeries being conducted at Kavaratti and dedicated surgical teams deployed in Agatti and Minicoy.
In a video message, Shri Rajnath Singh commended the Indian Navy for organising the initiative and reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to extending quality healthcare to remote regions under the vision of ‘Swasth Bharat’. Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi noted that the camp reflects strong inter-service synergy, a broad scope of medical expertise, and a large-scale deployment of professionals, strengthening civil-military cooperation while delivering meaningful healthcare outcomes.
More than 46 sight-restoring surgeries have already been performed within the first two days, supported by teams from the Armed Forces Medical Services. Alongside clinical care, residents are also being guided on preventive healthcare, nutrition, mental well-being, and lifestyle practices, making the camp a comprehensive effort to improve the long-term health and well-being of the people of Lakshadweep.
