Ramraj Cotton unveils India’s largest ‘Mundukalam’

Kochi: As part of the Onam celebrations, Ramraj Cotton has created India’s largest ‘Mundukalam’—an innovative floral carpet (Athapookalam) model designed entirely using traditional dhotis (mundu). Spanning an impressive 1,000 square feet at Forum Mall in Maradu, Kochi, the artistic setup creatively arranges a diverse selection of dhotis featuring different colors, borders (kara), and weaving techniques. This unique initiative perfectly blends Kerala’s rich textile tradition with the festive spirit of Onam, highlighting the skill and craftsmanship of handloom weavers. Speaking about the initiative, K.R. Nagarajan, Founder and Chairman of Ramraj Cotton, noted that just as every flower in a traditional Pookalam is unique, each dhoti carries its own distinct shade, border pattern, and texture. He emphasized that the project aims to celebrate the vibrant heritage of Kerala’s traditional attire while delivering an exceptional and varied collection of Onam dhotis to the public.
