The new centre at Aster Medcity is equipped to provide comprehensive antenatal diagnosis, fetal monitoring and specialised care for both mothers and babies
Kochi: Aster Medcity has launched its state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence in Fetal Medicine, dedicated to the advanced diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of unborn babies. The centre was inaugurated by Health and Family Welfare Minister K. Muraleedharan. During the event, the digital launch of ‘Jananeeyam – Free Fetal Scan’, an initiative offering essential fetal scanning services free of cost to pregnant women referred from government hospitals, was also held.
The new centre at Aster Medcity is equipped to provide comprehensive antenatal diagnosis, fetal monitoring and specialised care for both mothers and babies. Speaking at the event, Minister K. Muraleedharan said the government would explore ways to extend successful initiatives implemented by private hospitals to government healthcare institutions. He described the ‘Jananeeyam’ initiative launched at Aster Medcity as an example of such a programme and said that providing mothers with better opportunities to deliver healthy babies would be a significant achievement in the healthcare sector. The Minister also specially appreciated Aster Medcity for extending all support for the successful liver transplant surgery performed on a child in Thrissur who was poisoned by the father.
Under the Jananeeyam initiative, Aster Medcity will provide five free fetal scans every day to patients referred from government medical colleges, district hospitals and other government healthcare institutions. The free services will include anomaly scans, 3D/4D fetal assessments, fetal echocardiography and fetal neurosonography. Cases requiring a second expert opinion will also be covered completely free of cost, Aster officials said.
The Centre of Excellence in Fetal Medicine has been designed to provide pregnant women with accurate diagnosis, timely treatment and compassionate support throughout pregnancy, said Dr. Bijoy K. Balakrishnan, Senior Consultant and Programme Director, Fetal Medicine, Aster Medcity. The centre will bring together fetal medicine specialists, obstetricians, neonatologists, genetic specialists and paediatric subspecialists to provide personalised care for both routine and complex pregnancies.
The function was presided over by S. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Aster DM Quality Care Pvt. Ltd., India-1. Dr. Nalanda Jayadev, Regional CEO, Aster DM Quality Care, Central Kerala; Dr. Shuhaib Khader, COO, Aster Medcity; Dr. T. R. John, Chief of Medical Services; and Jeffy Stephen, Fetal Medicine Service Line Manager, also spoke at the event.
