KANNUR : Revolutionizing pediatric emergency care in North Malabar, Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH) Kannur has officially inaugurated North Malabar’s first fully dedicated Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Department, alongside launching ‘Kutti Doctor’—an innovative school-centric healthcare and first-aid initiative. Designed to offer round-the-clock emergency medical response for children under one roof, the new department integrates specialized sub-disciplines including Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Orthopedics, Pediatric Nephrology, Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Airway Management, and Pediatric Interventional Airway services.
The accompanying ‘Kutti Doctor’ project is a community-driven program designed to empower school students as first responders during medical emergencies on campuses. In collaboration with local schools, BMH medical experts will select two Student Police Cadet (SPC) members from each school across Kannur district and train them in scientific first-aid, basic life support, and emergency response procedures. Speaking at the inauguration, Nirup Mundayadan, CEO of BMH Kannur Cluster, emphasized that the dual initiative reflects BMH’s commitment to raising healthcare standards while building a safety-conscious young generation capable of saving lives. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Young Inspiration Master Kevin, young CPR awareness influencer Jesa Khalid, Chief of Medical Services (CMS) Dr. Muhammed Abdul Nasar E.K., Medical Administrator Dr. Kannan A.S., Emergency Medicine Chief Dr. Nithin Akkal, and Senior Consultant Dr. Prasad Kumar.
