National Eye Donation Week: Chaithanya ‘Eye Run’ Marathon and Street Play Draw Attention

Kochi: As part of the 41st National Eye Donation Week celebrations and the 16th National Conference on Cornea and Eye Banking, Chaithanya Eye Hospital organised the ‘Chaithanya Eye Run’ marathon. Kochi City Deputy Commissioner of Police A.P. Chandran flagged off the marathon at IMA House, Kaloor. Chaithanya Eye Hospital has been organising the marathon for the sixth consecutive year with the objective of creating greater public awareness about eye donation and encouraging more people to pledge their eyes for donation.

More than 600 participants took part in the awareness run conducted in five-kilometre and 10-kilometre categories. As part of the programme, an engaging street play led by doctors from Chaithanya Eye Hospital was also staged to spread the message of eye donation among the public. Dr. Anilkrishnan Nair, Deputy Medical Superintendent and Director of Healthcare Promotions, Chaithanya Eye Hospital, delivered the eye donation awareness message. S. Rajarathinam, COO, Chaithanya Eye Hospital, presented the prizes to the winners of the marathon.

The 16th National Conference on Cornea and Eye Banking, organised in Kochi jointly by the Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons, Chaithanya Eye Hospital, Ananth Eye Bank and the Cochin Ophthalmic Society, was also successfully concluded as part of the programme.
