Gen Z Drives 40% Surge in Airbnb Hosting in India

Kochi: The number of young Indians opening their homes to travellers by becoming hosts on Airbnb has witnessed a significant rise. During the first half of 2026, the number of Gen Z hosts in India increased by approximately 40% compared with the previous year. Two out of every five new hosts joining the platform are between 18 and 29 years of age.

Young hosts are increasingly active not only in major metropolitan cities but also in destinations such as Indore, Kochi and Dehradun, as well as in rural areas. The growing participation of Gen Z is also reflected in their earnings, which have increased by more than 60% compared with the previous year. Several young hosts have also earned Airbnb’s Superhost status in recognition of their high standards of hospitality.
