KOCHI : The ninth edition of the India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime Exercise (IBSAMAR IX 2026) concluded at Simon’s Town, South Africa, on October 20, 2026. The 10-day trilateral naval exercise brought together the Indian Navy, Brazilian Navy, and South African Navy for comprehensive professional interactions and high-intensity maritime evolutions designed to boost interoperability and joint operational capabilities.
Representing India, the frontline guided-missile stealth frigate INS Tarkash participated in the exercise. The closing ceremony marked the successful completion of both the Harbour and Sea phases, which featured joint training, cross-deck interactions, and subject-matter expertise exchanges across multi-domain warfare disciplines.

Addressing personnel at the closing ceremony, the Commanding Officer of INS Tarkash highlighted that exercises like IBSAMAR provide a vital operational platform to translate enduring diplomatic ties into tangible naval synergy. He noted that the true value of such joint deployments lies in both tactical integration and the enduring professional relationships forged among crew members.

Connecting three key Southern Hemisphere democracies across distinct continents, IBSAMAR IX 2026 underscores the shared commitment of India, Brazil, and South Africa toward ensuring safe, open, and secure sea lanes governed by a rules-based maritime order.
