LUCKNOW: Union Minister of Defence Shri Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath jointly performed the Bhoomi Pujan for 14 major development projects valued at over ₹100 crore in Lucknow Cantonment. The civic infrastructure push includes 12 projects led by the Cantonment Board alongside two joint initiatives undertaken in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh State Government.
The development package covers key municipal sectors, featuring an AI-based Solid Waste Management Plant, a Multi-Utility Sports Complex, a Modern Crematorium, a Multi-Level Robotic Car Parking and Commercial Complex, and legacy waste bio-remediation projects. To bolster local civic services, the drive also introduces a 1,500 KL underground reservoir, tubewell and overhead tank installations integrated with SCADA automation, a special school for differently-abled children, and classroom expansions at local secondary schools. The two joint state collaborations comprise the launch of the RA Bazar City Polyclinic and the Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Coaching Centre.
Speaking at the ceremony, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted that urban progress in the Cantonment directly impacts the wider growth of Lucknow. Reaffirming the national vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, he stressed that true development goes beyond large-scale infrastructure to encompass accessible quality education, reliable clean water supply, youth empowerment, and inclusive support for differently-abled citizens.
The event also marked the official renaming of several colonial-era markets within Lucknow Cantonment to honor national icons. Royal Artillery Bazar has been renamed Ekta Bazar, British Cavalry Bazar as Uda Devi Bazar, British Infantry Bazars as Matadin Valmiki Bazar and Mangal Pandey Bazar, and Kanedy Market as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Market. Prior to the foundation ceremony, the leaders joined a gathering of nearly 4,000 citizens to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann ki Baat address.
