Raksha Mantri and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Perform Bhoomi Pujan for ₹472 Crore T-Series Tank Overhaul Project in Jabalpur

JABALPUR:Union Minister of Defence Shri Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav jointly performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the T-Series Tanks Overhaul Project at the Vehicle Factory, Jabalpur—a unit of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL)—on August 27, 2026. The ₹472 crore facility will establish dedicated overhauling infrastructure for T-72 and T-90 tanks, representing a key milestone in strengthening domestic defence maintenance and self-reliance.

Designed to overhaul 80 tanks annually, the new unit will bridge critical maintenance gaps for the Indian Army, which requires 230 tank overhauls each year. Supplementing the Heavy Vehicles Factory in Avadi—which currently overhauls 150 tanks annually—the Jabalpur facility will ensure the timely availability of modernized armored platforms and enhance overall operational readiness. Beyond boosting military capabilities, the project is set to energize the regional economy by providing extensive supply chain opportunities for local MSMEs and creating jobs across manufacturing and ancillary services.

Speaking at the event, Shri Rajnath Singh emphasized that modern warfare relies on integrated combat systems where tanks, artillery, drones, and electronic warfare function in synergy. He noted that nations with resilient supply chains, advanced technologies, and robust industrial capacities are best positioned to withstand prolonged conflicts, underscoring the Government’s commitment to eliminating dependence on foreign supply chains for critical maintenance. Highlighting India’s record defence production of around ₹1.80 lakh crore and exports reaching nearly ₹39,000 crore in FY 2025-26, he praised Madhya Pradesh’s emerging role as a key defence and aerospace manufacturing hub.
