Kochi : World Breastfeeding Week was celebrated with various programs at Aster Medcity, Kochi, aiming to raise public awareness about the importance of breastfeeding in securing a sustainable and healthy future for children. The event, held at the Knowledge Hub under the auspices of the Centre of Excellence in Pediatrics and Neonatology, was inaugurated by Ernakulam District Collector G. Priyanka IAS. It was organized as part of the Mother and Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, which works towards the health and well-being of mothers and babies. World Breastfeeding Week is observed globally from August 1 to 7.
Cultural and entertainment activities were organized for mothers and children during the occasion. Highlights included a ramp walk for mothers, performance arts by parents and Aster staff, and a session where mothers shared their personal experiences. The District Collector also distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions organized as part of the breastfeeding celebrations. Aster Medcity CEO Dr. Nalanda Jayadev, COO Dr. Shuhaib Khader, Dr. George Jose, Dr. Jeeson C. Unni, Dr. Sherly Mathan, and the Chief Nursing Officer addressed the gathering.
