KOCHI: DP World’s Shipping Solutions AMEA division has expanded its partnership with VisionSpring Foundation to provide free comprehensive eye screenings and prescription eyeglasses to nearly 12,000 commercial vehicle drivers and transport sector workers across India. Designed to enhance road safety and prioritize driver health and well-being, the initiative commenced its latest phase at Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai and will be rolled out across key logistics hubs including Kochi, Delhi, and Kolkata in the coming days. Under the program, certified healthcare professionals conduct vision tests and distribute free eyeglasses on-site, while referring individuals diagnosed with critical conditions like cataracts to local charitable institutions or government health centers for advanced treatment.
The national expansion follows a highly successful pilot initiative launched in Gujarat in 2025, where over 9,000 transport workers were screened and 5,200 pairs of glasses were distributed. Crucially, the pilot revealed that 61 percent of examined drivers suffered from vision impairment, with 94 percent acquiring corrective eyeglasses for the first time—highlighting a critical gap in accessible eye care within the commercial transport sector. C. M. Muralidharan, Regional Director, Shipping Solutions AMEA, DP World, stated that ensuring optimal vision for commercial drivers is vital for empowering them to operate safely on the roads while improving overall transportation safety across key supply chain corridors.
