Kochi: After 12 long years of suffering, S.B. Manu (44), a native of Karunagappally in Kollam, has finally found relief at VPS Lakeshore Hospital. Three glass fragments, each measuring nearly three centimetres and lodged near her spine, were successfully removed through a complex surgical procedure. The surgery was performed under the leadership of Dr. R. Krishnakumar, Director, Department of Spine and Scoliosis Surgery.
Twelve years ago, Manu sustained injuries after falling onto a glass-topped table while she was eight months pregnant. Although she received initial treatment at the time, some of the glass fragments lodged near her spine went undetected. For years thereafter, she suffered severe back pain and sleeplessness, leaving her unable to work or carry out her daily activities. Despite consulting several hospitals, the underlying cause of her persistent pain could not be identified.
Following detailed specialist evaluations, Manu was brought to VPS Lakeshore, where a 3D CT scan revealed the presence of glass fragments lodged near her spine. A multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Krishnakumar, with specialists from the departments of Radiology and Anaesthesiology, successfully removed the fragments through surgery. Manu and her family are now relieved to have finally found a solution to years of frustration and excruciating pain.
