Thiruvananthapuram: Amazon and Tata Motors have entered into an agreement to deploy 3,000 electric trucks across Amazon’s transportation network in India. This marks a significant step in Amazon’s efforts to electrify its transportation fleet beyond last-mile deliveries, extending the adoption of electric vehicles across its e-commerce logistics operations in the country. Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations for Amazon APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkey, Kishore Lanka, Director of Operations at Amazon India, Sushant Naik, Global Head and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Tata Motors, and Rajesh Kaul, Head and Vice President of the Truck Business at Tata Motors, jointly flagged off the first batch of electric trucks in Delhi.
The electric trucks supplied by Tata Motors will be owned and operated by Amazon’s carrier partners. The initiative brings together Tata Motors’ technological expertise as India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and Amazon’s extensive logistics network. The initial deployment will begin in Delhi during the festive season, when freight movement reaches its peak, before expanding to key national highway corridors. The initiative aims to enable electric freight transportation along the 2,800-kilometre Delhi-Bengaluru-Chennai corridor (NH48), which connects seven states. Dedicated charging hubs will also be developed in collaboration with Yahhvi, a charging infrastructure provider, to support the deployment. The initiative will support the Delhi Government’s 2026 EV Policy and align with the Central Government’s PM E-DRIVE and PARIVARTAN programmes, further promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly freight transportation across India.
