Central Government Takes Strong Measures to Curb Black Marketing and Hoarding of Essential Commodities

Kochi: The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has initiated stringent measures to prevent black marketing and hoarding of essential commodities. As the first step, the government is collecting stock data on sugar held by traders across the country. Under the new system, sugar traders are required to regularly record the quantity of sugar in their possession on the Central Government’s Stock Management Portal. From September 15, traders who are not registered on the portal will not be permitted to sell sugar. Stock details must be updated every Friday as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen stock monitoring, ensure transparency and prevent hoarding and black marketing.
