Corro Health Layoffs: Another Meeting with Company Authorities on July 20

KOCHI: Labor Minister Bindu Krishna stated that Corro Health must reconsider its decision to close down its offices in Kerala and maintain the current status quo by retaining its existing employees. The Minister was speaking at a high-level meeting convened to discuss the mass layoff of around 830 employees following the closure of the company’s offices in Kerala.

According to the country’s existing labor laws, a 60-day notice must be given to employees prior to large-scale layoffs. Additionally, the seniority criterion of ‘last in, first out’ must be followed. However, none of these regulations were complied with in the case of Corro Health. The company should be prepared to retain the maximum number of employees in its Kerala offices and relocate the remaining staff to its other offices across the country. The company should also bring its new projects to the state. The Minister added that the government is offering all necessary assistance to continue operations in Kerala, and if the company fails to show a favorable approach, the state government intends to take strict legal action.

Another meeting will be held with the company authorities on July 20 to discuss further course of action. The Minister also demanded that company representatives attend this meeting in person.

The meeting, held at the Collectorate Spark Hall, was attended by Hibi Eden MP, Uma Thomas MLA, District Collector G. Priyanka, Labor Commissioner Safna Nasaruddin, representatives of Corro Health employees, various trade union leaders, and Corro Health management representatives (online).
