KOCHI: Commemorating International Day of Older Persons alongside World Dementia Awareness Month, Amrita Hospital, Kochi, organized ‘Amrita Vayojana Mitra Sangamam 2026’ to honor senior citizens and promote comprehensive geriatric healthcare. The landmark event was jointly hosted by the departments of Geriatrics, Palliative Medicine, and Home Care at Amrita Hospital, drawing an overwhelming response with around 100 participants, including elderly individuals and their primary caregivers. Dr. Rehna, General Manager and Administrator at Amrita Hospital, officially inaugurated the summit by lighting the ceremonial lamp, while Dr. Priya Vijayakumar, Head of the Department of Geriatrics & Home Care, delivered the welcome address. As part of the educational itinerary, eminent medical experts including Dr. Padmasree, Dr. Divyamol K. Sasidharan, Dr. Rajasree, and Dr. Subin Ahamed conducted interactive awareness sessions focusing on healthy ageing, dementia management, and fall prevention strategies for the elderly.
Prioritizing preventive health and overall quality of life for the elderly, the initiative provided free diagnostic screenings encompassing thyroid checks, dental examinations, vision assessments, frailty evaluations, and fall-risk screenings for all attendees. The event also featured engaging interactive activities and recreational programs designed for seniors and their caregivers to participate in together. Beyond medical consultations, ‘Amrita Vayojana Mitra Sangamam 2026’ served as a holistic platform to elevate public awareness regarding geriatric physical and mental well-being, while solemnly recognizing and honoring the selfless dedication of family and professional caregivers who support elderly individuals in their daily lives.
