THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major boost to public transportation in Kerala, the Thrissur-headquartered Southern Multi-State Co-operative Society has contributed ₹40 lakh to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) for the purchase of a new bus. Society Chairman Paulson Chirayath handed over the cheque to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan in the presence of Transport Minister C.P. John at the Chief Minister’s Office in Thiruvananthapuram. The cheque was subsequently received by KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director Dr. P.S. Pramoj Shankar. The co-operative society requested that the new vehicle be deployed at the Thrissur KSRTC depot, an option Transport Minister C.P. John assured would be favorably considered.

Society officials stated that the funds were allocated from their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) corpus to support the State Government’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen the public transport sector and enhance commuter convenience. Reaffirming their commitment, the management expressed continued backing for progressive infrastructure and public utility development in Kerala. The handing-over ceremony was attended by Youth Affairs Minister O.J. Janeesh, Thrissur MLA Rajan J. Pallan, Society Managing Director K. Manoj, Directors Grigorin Vadakkan and P. Manoj Thomas, and Sales Head Shaiju John. Registered under the Central Government, the Southern Multi-State Co-operative Society joins other institutions, such as the Calicut City Service Co-operative Bank, in utilizing CSR resources to donate fleet vehicles to KSRTC.
