In a dramatic escalation of internal conflict, the JSS state committee has expelled its president Prof. A.V. Thamarakshan for alleged anti-party activities.
Kochi: In a major development, the Janathipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS) has expelled its state president Prof. A.V. Thamarakshan from the party on charges of engaging in anti-party activities. The decision was taken by the state committee meeting held in Kochi, where disciplinary actions were finalized against several suspended leaders. Alongside Thamarakshan, party centre members Vinod Wayanad and K.P. Surendran (Kuttanad), as well as state secretaries Balaramapuram Surendran and Malayinkeezhu Nandakumar, were expelled.
Announcing the decision, state general secretary Adv. A.N. Rajan Babu said the district committees of Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad were also dissolved and placed under ad-hoc committees. Earlier, show-cause notices had been issued to four suspended leaders, a move ratified by the party centre itself under Thamarakshan’s chairmanship. However, matters escalated after Thamarakshan issued a press release claiming to have expelled the party’s general secretary, which the committee viewed as a breach of discipline.
Following this, the state committee unanimously resolved to remove Thamarakshan and others from primary membership. The meeting, chaired by working president Adv. Sanjeev Somarajan and inaugurated by general secretary Adv. Rajan Babu, was attended by senior vice president Kattukulam Saleem, centre member Dasan Parippilly (Kannur), Adv. K.V. Bhasi, vice president Jayan Idukki, and Adv. K.V. Prasad, among others.
Of the 93-member state committee, 68 members participated in the meeting, while nine members officially applied for leave, according to the general secretary’s statement. The expulsions mark a deepening rift within the JSS, raising fresh questions about its leadership stability and future direction in Kerala’s political landscape.
