Vice President of India recognises SBP Pattabhi Rama Rao’s extraordinary contribution to Maize farming

Kochi : Gourmet Popcornica, India’s largest popcorn maize company and the world’s fourth largest, has received a personal letter of recognition from the Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, for its significant contribution to Indian agriculture, farmer livelihoods, and the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. In his letter dated June 23, 2026, the Vice President commended the company’s role in transforming popcorn into a popular snack while creating sustainable value for maize farmers across the country. He also expressed confidence that Gourmet Popcornica’s efforts would help India achieve self-sufficiency in popcorn maize by 2030 and emerge as a global exporter of premium-quality popcorn maize.

Founded in 2014, Chennai-based Gourmet Popcornica has built an integrated popcorn value chain spanning hybrid seed development, farmer partnerships, processing, storage, cinema supply, and branded retail products. The company currently works with nearly 20,000 farmers across nine states, cultivating more than 40,000 acres of popcorn maize. Responding to the recognition, Managing Director SBP Pattabhi Rama Rao dedicated the honour to the company’s farmers, employees, and partners, reaffirming its commitment to advancing Indian agriculture and strengthening the country’s position in the global popcorn maize industry.
