Kozhikode: Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum, which has been at the forefront of promoting the German language and Indo-German cultural exchange in Kerala for more than two decades, has opened a new examination centre at TT Avenue, Govindapuram, near Lulu Mall in Kozhikode. The centre has been established in response to the growing demand among students and young professionals from Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kasaragod and other parts of the Malabar region who are learning German for higher education and career opportunities.

The Kozhikode centre is Goethe-Zentrum’s first centre in North Malabar. The centre has been established to enable candidates to take internationally recognised German language certificate examinations closer to their homes, said Dr. Alexandra Mittler, Director, Language Programmes, South Asia, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi, who inaugurated the centre. The language examinations conducted by the Goethe-Institut, Germany’s official cultural institution, enjoy wide international recognition. Conducted in accordance with the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the examinations are essential for academic and professional purposes for those planning to pursue opportunities in Germany.
Goethe-Zentrum Kerala Director Dr. Syed Ibrahim said the organisation aims to transform Kozhikode into a major platform for Indo-German cultural cooperation, going beyond its role as merely an examination centre. He added that plans are underway to bring German film festivals, music programmes, literary events, workshops and collaborative initiatives with universities to the cultural landscape of Malabar in the coming years.
